Xbox Game Studios head Craig Duncan has confirmed that Fable wonโt be arriving in 2025. The title is being developed by Playground Games.
Originally slated for a 2025 release, the franchise reboot has had fans eagerly awaiting updates since its teaser last year.
Fable 4 delayed until next year
Duncan revealed during the Official Xbox Podcast that Fable is getting โmore time,โ now pushing the launch into 2026.
While he acknowledged the delay may disappoint some, he emphasized that this additional development window will ensure a polished experience and that he has โunequivocal confidence in the Playground team.โ
Best known for the Forza Horizon series, Playground Games took over Fable approximately five years ago. Duncan praised their work, hinting at โthe most beautifully realized version of Albion youโve ever seen.โ
The showcase also showed new footage that included lush meadows, busy streets, horseback riding, and more.
Having spent hands-on time with certain quests and boss battles, Duncan teased that everything โfelt amazingโ and that the gameโs visual fidelity is truly striking.
Fable 4 release date
Thereโs no official release date at the moment. The only thing we know is that it is currently slated fo a 2026 release, which might be the right move for Xbox.
Many fans arenโt shocked by the delay, especially given the lack of updates since last Juneโs teaser. By moving Fable into 2026, Xbox avoids competing with the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6, which is rumored to dominate the late 2025 release calendar.
Considering Xbox has had success with big RPG titles Avowed and with Outer Worlds 2 on the horizon, giving Fable extra time to shine makes strategic sense.
Will Fable 4 be on PlayStation?
Players on other systems are now wondering if Fable could follow Forza Horizonโs lead and eventually appear beyond Xbox platforms. While thereโs no official word, Microsoftโs ongoing push toward broader accessibility means nothing is off the table.
For now, however, all signs point to Fable being the flagship Xbox release in 2026.
