Dungeons & Dragons is taking a new approach and a big swing with a brand new actual play called ‘Dungeon Masters’ with a twist.
Dungeon Masters actual play cast

First and foremost, it has a star-studded cast featuring two Baldur’s Gate 3 stars in the form of Neil Newbon and Devora Wilde alongside Jasmine Bhullar of DesiQuest, Acquisitions Inc., and Critical Role, Christian Navarro of 13 Reasons Why and Forgotten Realms, and Mayanna Berrin from Dispatch and The Dungeon Run.
Oh and apparently they’ll even have guest appearances!
What makes Dungeon Masters a unique actual play?
Okay, I’m sure you’re wondering what’s the twist you mentioned – well first, each season will feature unreleased D&D content – for the debut season, they’re showcasing upcoming content from Ravenloft: The Horrors Within – but not only that, the show will include pop-up tips that explain spells and abilities, map graphics, and other cues to make the game easier to follow and help onboard newer viewers.

This gives new information about upcoming content to veteran players and also helps new players understand what they’re watching. Not a bad idea!
Dungeons & Dragons themselves describe the show as “designed to help fans see how official D&D stories, encounters, and choices play in practice.”
What are Play-Along Packs for Dungeons and Dragons?
Another interesting new addition is that of Play-Along Packs. According to D&D, each season will have a Play-Along Pack. Then the morning after a new episode airs, a new episode associated encounter will drop featuring unreleased monsters from the new book.
The first two are apparently Zombie Clot and Swarm of Zombie Limbs. Anyone who pre-orders Ravenloft: The Horror Within will have access to these Play-Along Packs. A neat little incentive.

Who are the characters in Dungeon Masters?
The characters are all utilizing some new content and each seem pretty fun.
- Crem, a Reanimator Artificer, played by Neil
- Eloin, a Winter Walker Ranger, played by Christian
- Wesley, a Grave Domain Cleric, played by Mayanna
- Zora, a Hexblood Shadow Sorcerer, played Devora

When and where does Dungeon Masters release?
The Dungeons and Dragons actual play series Dungeon Masters is scheduled to air on April 22 at 6:30pm PT with the first two episodes on their official YouTube.
From that point forward, new episodes will air each Wednesday at 6:30pm PT.
Overall, it’s really cool to see Wizards of the Coast continue to invest is growing D&D and providing a unique approach to actual plays. What do you think though?
